Red's six, and how to answer them
Red's team never changes, so learning it is the single biggest edge you can build. Weaknesses below are computed straight from the Gen 3 type chart used by the game.
Pikachu
Light Ball · Static
Fast and frail, and Light Ball doubles its Sp. Atk. A Ground type takes nothing from its Electric moves. Take it down before Thunder trades blows with you.
Espeon
Leftovers · Synchronize
Fast, special, and hits hard with Psychic. Dark, Ghost, and Bug attacks are super effective — land one before it does.
Snorlax
Leftovers · Immunity
Huge HP and Special Defense, but a much lower Defense. Fighting moves are super effective, and physical attacks get through.
Venusaur
Miracle Seed · Overgrow
Giga Drain and Sludge Bomb cover most common answers, and Earthquake handles Fire and Steel. Fire, Ice, Flying, and Psychic hit it hard.
Charizard
Charcoal · Blaze
Fast Fire/Flying with Dragon Claw and Earthquake. Rock attacks deal four times the damage, so a Rock Slide can end it in one hit.
Blastoise
Mystic Water · Torrent
Bulky, with Ice Beam and Earthquake to cover its weaknesses. Grass and Electric get the best results.
General tips
- Preview Red's whole team before you pick your lead; his Pikachu wants to hit first.
- Save a Pokemon that resists Ground for Red's Earthquake users and one that resists Water/Ice for Blastoise.
- Status wins fights: paralysis neutralizes fast attackers, and sleep gives a free setup turn.
- Watch PP. Long fights drain your best move — Struggle is a last resort.
- Practice mode uses your daily six, so rehearse your switch order until it feels natural.
